About the GCMA®
History
On November 21, 2019 at the Event Safety Summit in Lititz, Pennsylvania, Eric Stuart of the United Kingdom Crowd Management Association (UKCMA) and Steve Adelman of the Event Safety Alliance (ESA) announced their intention to create an international partnership regarding crowd management and crowd safety.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its catastrophic effect on the global event industry, discussions about crowds gave way to more immediate health and safety issues. In January 2021 conversations resumed between the UKCMA and ESA, who were soon joined by the Event Safety Alliance Canada (ESAC) and crowd safety advocates from Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.
It is time to create an international forum for awareness of crowd management and the safety of groups of people in public spaces. This alliance addresses the need for coordination and shared learning amongst nations, organizations and individuals in order to bridge legislative and cultural differences regarding issues that are often universal.
